The Heavy Construction course focuses on three potential career paths and allows students to explore each course individually:
  • Heavy Equipment Operator
  • Mobile Crane Operator
  • Heavy Duty Mechanic 
This course provides and introduction to the knowledge and skills necessary in the activity and production work associated with earth, gravel and rock movement. You'll get significant hands-on practice operating heavy equipment simulators, and you'll develop knowledge in respect for the work environment, legislation, basic repairs, preventative maintenance, and industrial safety concepts. You will also get an introduction to the skills necessary in the rigging and hoisting activity associated with the construction industry. Mobile Crane Operators are an integral component in the construction of highways, residential and commercial building construction for the transfer of heavy loads. 

In addition to gaining experience and knowledge of the heavy equipment machines, you will also gain invaluable insight into the mechanics of the machinery and the important field of Heavy Duty Mechanic. This course is an excellent opportunity to explore this industry and determine where you would like to focus.
